Sushi In, Carbon Paper Out in the 2005 Yellow Pages Directories

Yellow Pages Directory Uncovers Latest Business Trends

Montreal, (Québec),  June 14, 2005 – Just as new words are added to the Oxford English Dictionary every year to reflect the evolution of language, Yellow Pages Group is getting ready to introduce 12 new category headings to its 2005 directories to reflect the shifting trends in Canadian business.

“Each year we introduce new heading classifications that represent modern lifestyles and remove some of those that are simply no longer relevant,” says Bob Nunn, Director, Marketing Communications, Yellow Pages Group. “The changes provide interesting insight into the latest business trends driven by consumer demand.”

Thanks in part to the ever-popular extreme makeover-type reality TV shows, consumers will now find physicians listed under Cosmetic Surgery in the directory. Also, it’s not surprising to see changes in technology-related headings. Categories like Automobile Starter Systems & Remote Starters and Home Theatre System have been added as consumers demand a diverse range of technology to complement their lifestyles. And, products and services like Carbon Paper, Typesetting Machines and Teletypewriter Communications Service-Business, which have been replaced by their high-tech counterparts, will no longer have designated directory headings.

The influx of popular home decorating TV shows along with the exploding consumer demand for home improvements makes the Home Decor & Furnishings heading a natural addition. The booming Scrapbooking industry, now a multi-million dollar industry in Canada, will also headline for the first-time in the Yellow Pages directories. With the surge in popularity of Asian cuisine, Thai food and Sushi will also make their heading debut in the release of the 2005 Montreal Yellow Pages™ directory that will be distributed in September.

“In addition to receiving requests for new headings from advertisers, we are able to determine relevant changes by analyzing the business searches made by consumers on www.YellowPages.ca,” notes Mr. Nunn. “It’s annual changes like these that make our directories the most up-to-date and complete source of business information in Canada.”
