Any established small business (with no more that 50 employees) that demonstrates outstanding community contribution, from fundraising efforts to volunteer hours, is eligible for a cash prize for their business and their charity or non-profit organization of choice.
Q: How do I enter? All entry information is available in the Program Requirements and Online Applicatio / Nomination │ Application Form │ Nomination Form sections. You can also email makeitreal@ypg.com with any questions.
Q: Who is eligible? Entrants must be a registered small business with no more than 50 employees who demonstrate outstanding community contribution. The business must be registered in one of the following ten communities:
- Kelowna, British Columbia
- Abbotsford, British Columbia

- Brandon, Manitoba
- Kingston, Ontario

Q: Why are you focusing only on select cities/towns? The selected cities are part of the numerous markets in which Yellow Pages Group operates. Each community was carefully chosen and may change annually.
Q: Where is the Make It Real program running? The program is running in ten communities across Canada. In British Columbia, these include Abbotsford, and Kelowna. In Alberta: Grande Prairie and Red Deer. In Manitoba: Brandon. In Ontario: Kingston and London. In Quebec: Region du Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec and Sherbrooke, and in Nova Scotia: Halifax.
Q: When is the deadline for submissions? The deadline for submissions is May 1, 2008.
Q: Why do I need references? Each submission to the Make It Real program requires at least two and no more than five references. These references will provide judges with insight from local residents or non-profit organizations about how the business contributes to the community and how their contribution is positively affecting those in need.
Q: Can my business be nominated by a third party? We encourage nominations. On receipt of a nomination we will immediately follow-up with the nominated business and encourage them to complete the application form to the required standard. The deadline for nominations is April 21, 2008.
Q: If I win, are there any conditions as to how I spend my prize? Each award will be addressed to the winning business and not the individual. While we encourage winners to invest the cash donation in their business or in their community, ultimately how the prize money is used is the decision of the companies awarded the prizes.
Q: How much does the winner get? A total of $7,500 will be awarded in each community, with a portion of each prize being donated directly to the winners’ charity of choice.
- Platinum: $5,000
($4,000 for the winning business and $1,000 to the selected beneficiary organization)
- Gold: $2,500
($2,000 for the winning business and $500 to the selected beneficiary organization)
Q: Who judges the Make It Real program? A panel of 3 or 5 local business leaders, municipal politicians, academics and chamber of commerce members and past winners. Each submission is judged on the same criteria and the decision of the judges is final and cannot be disputed.
Q: When do I find out if I have won? We will announce the winners of the Make It Real program on June 9, 2008. The winners will be contacted. A press release will be issued shortly after to local media announcing the winners.
Q: What if I’m not satisfied with the results and winners? Each submission is judged fairly and on the same criteria. The decision of the judges is final and cannot be disputed. |
