Yellow Pages Group is committed to the environment We recognize that our operations have an impact on the environment. Our programs reflect our determination to minimize that impact. We demonstrate our role as a responsible corporation and good neighbour to all Canadians and most specifically our different stakeholders, by proactively integrating environmental considerations into the decisions we make.
Yellow Pages Group will:
- Support initiatives that promote the reduction, re-use and recycling of materials.
- Develop innovative solutions to producing and delivering our products.
- Adopt internal standards and systems to monitor, measure and improve recycling performance.
- Provide employees with the training and knowledge they require to achieve excellence in recycling performance.
- Work with the public and community organizations to achieve our common recycling goals.
- Communicate regularly our recycling initiatives.
What Yellow Pages Group is doing: Yellow Pages Group has undertaken different measures to consolidate and formalize our recycling practices and policies. This is reflected in our dedication to the three R’s: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Reduce Yellow Pages Group has and continues to search for opportunities to eliminate unnecessary printing. With this edict in mind, we have successfully implemented a number of programs that have resulted in the reduction of the amount of paper we use. These initiatives include:
- Working with medium and large businesses to accurately determine the required number of directories;
- Promoting the use of alternate media (digital) to large business customers;
- Adjusting the dimensions of some directories for more efficient use of press to reduce waste; and
- Improving distribution strategy including inventory management and stock reduction initiatives.
Reuse The paper that Yellow Pages Group uses for its directories is a clear example of successfully reusing material. Our paper is composed of a blend of post-consumer fibre content and thermo-mechanical pulp made from wood chips, a by-product of saw mill operations.
Recycle Our directories are fully recyclable. In order to produce a recyclable product, we avoid the use of materials that are difficult to recycle. We are also committed to ensuring all future enhancements to our directories will effectively assimilate into the recycling process.
Recycled directories are converted into newsprint, cereal boxes, coffee holders, egg crates and other paper products.
Yellow Pages Group also promotes directory recycling through municipal programs. We partner with environmental and governmental agencies in Ontario and Quebec to ensure that we comply with provincial regulations.
We are a member of Corporations Sharing Responsibility (CSR) and the Provincial Recycling Councils in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia. Additionally, Yellow Pages Group is a steward in Quebec with Éco Entreprises Québec, in Ontario with Stewardship Ontario and in Manitoba with Multi-Material Stewardship Manitoba.
Showing environmental leadership internally In addition to our external initiatives, Yellow Pages Group offers an internal recycling program in most of our corporate offices across the country to improve our overall recycling performance. An ongoing communications program supports that effort. |
