New YellowPages.ca Site Officially Launched

Beta version testing of the new YellowPages.ca™ well received by users and advertisers

Montreal (Quebec), September 5, 2006 – After a successful launch of the Beta version on June 20, Yellow Pages Group (YPG) is now officially going live with its new YellowPages.ca™ search engine. The site incorporates feedback from close to 15,000 users reacting to the Beta version. Users rated their overall impression of the site at 4.6 out of 5 and ease of use at 4.7 out of 5. With scores like these, YPG is now proud to take Canadians directly to its new platform when they visit www.YellowPages.ca.

In July, YPG conducted an online contest to drive traffic to the Beta site and collect feedback from users. Results have been very encouraging for the company. Users notably commented on the brightness of the site and the attractive visual features like picture ads and maps. They were also particularly pleased with the fact that they received instant gratification.

To that effect, YellowPages.ca scores higher than other search engines with a 92% satisfactory search success rate.  In addition, failed searches have gone down by 60% since the launch of the Beta version. The ultimate goal is to be able to deliver relevant results 100% of the time.

Reactions from advertisers were also very positive. They feel the new YellowPages.ca is now a much more effective resource for users and, consequently, a better advertising tool for them.

YPG will continue to collect users’ feedback and improve the new search engine, as well as add new features to constantly maximize the user experience and enhance the advertisers’ visibility.

Online access to all Yellow Pages™ directories
The key selling point of YellowPages.ca is its expanded universe of information. Not only does it provide information from publicly available URLs like other search engines, it also puts its proprietary data at the disposal of users, including business profiles, paid URLs, advertisements, menus, maps and more. YellowPages.ca differs from other search engines because it provides more depth and accuracy of content, thanks to YPG’s sales force.

“YellowPages.ca is close to being a ‘find’ engine,” said Marc P. Tellier, President and CEO of Yellow Pages Group. “Users have access to a wealth of proprietary business information and we are now able to push relevant and structured results for their benefit. No other search engine can provide this depth of content and level of accuracy.”

The new YellowPages.ca site’s main features include:

  • Keyword search box lets users query with multiple keywords, phone numbers and more
  • Location search box allows users to search by landmark, region, postal code and more
  • “Did you mean?” feature detects and corrects spelling errors that lead to ambiguity
  • “Free call” feature instantaneously connects users by phone with queried merchants, using any type of telephone or network
  • Tiered rankings help users identify national, regional and local players

The launch enables YPG to consolidate its leadership position in the area of local search. The new YellowPages.ca search engine can be accessed directly at www.YellowPages.ca, and indirectly through www.Canada411.ca, www.Superpages.ca and YPG’s partners’ sites.
