Yellow Pages Group (YPG) partners with leading environmental organizations to create useful eco-tool for local environmental guidelines and tips

Montreal (Quebec), June 17, 2009 – More than ever, Canadians are looking for ways to limit their impact on the environment by responsibly disposing of household waste.  In fact, a recent survey indicated that 90 per cent of Canadians consult at least one source for local recycling and waste removal information and more than half of this group look to three or more resources for these services .

Beginning this month, Canadians should look to their Yellow Pages™ directory for the newly created Yellow Pages™ ecoGuide – a local resource for responsible consumption that was developed in collaboration with a number of leading environmental organizations including Earth Day Canada, Équiterre and Green Communities Canada, as well as with contributions by local municipalities and recycling councils.

“Canadians are showing great willingness to reduce their environmental impact but often don’t know where to start,” explains Jean-Pascal Lion, Vice-President – Marketing, Yellow Pages Group. “Research showed us that approximately one-third of Canadians are unaware of how to safely dispose of many household items such as electronic devices, personal computers, appliances and tires in an eco-friendly manner. “We are pleased to address a real need and provide a valuable eco-resource to households and businesses.”

The same survey also indicated that 90 per cent of Canadians would find it useful to have easily accessible eco-information in a single reference. The Yellow Pages™ ecoGuide is located in the front section of all new Yellow Pages™ directories and includes municipal environmental services, a 3R directory to help users dispose of more than 400 household items, a comprehensive list of environmental certifications to help consumers make informed purchase decisions, and a list of 15 simple and practical actions that will help Canadians reduce their household’s ecological footprint.

The Yellow Pages™ ecoGuide is one of YPG’s several environmental initiatives. In April 2009, YPG announced its participation in the Changing the World, One Step at a Time, a program developed by Équiterre and supported by Green Communities Canada, which encourages people and businesses to take steps to have a positive impact on the environment and the society. Don’t forget to recycle!
YPG reminds Canadians to recycle their old directories once the new ones arrive at their doorstep. Yellow Pages™ directories are completely recyclable, and the outdated editions can be disposed of as part of regular municipal recycling pickup.
